For the third time in four years, portfolio company LISNR has been named to CNBC’s Disruptor 50 List.  This is a group of private companies “whose innovations are changing the world. These forward-thinking start-ups have not only identified unexploited niches in the market that have the potential to become billion-dollar businesses.”  32 of them are billion dollar businesses.

LISNR, whose technology uses inaudible sound, instead of Bluetooth or wifi, to connect devices,  shares the 2018 Disruptor honor with some of the most recognizable companies in the world, including SpaceX, Uber and AirBnB.  You can read the CNBC write-up on LISNR here.

LISNR, co-founded and led by CEO Rodney  Williams, previously made the list in 2015 and 2016. "We're honored to be a CNBC Disruptor 50 for the third time. It's a testament to the fact that our team has put a lot of work into creating great technologies that help our customers save both time and money.  Sound is the ultimate medium for conveying ideas, whether it's a great song or a great speech. Now we're adding a new dimension, by utilizing it as a transport mechanism for data, untethering companies and consumers from the need for expensive hardware and protocols." said Eric Allen, President Lisnr.

"LISNR's data-over-audio solution offers a disruptive method of device communications that enhance user experiences, simplify and secure payments, and make machine-to-machine communications safe, secure, and fast. LISNR is essential in a world where billions of devices are being deployed to talk to each other and to us," said CincyTech CEO and LISNR  board member Mike Venerable.

CincyTech led LISNR’s seed round in 2013.  Later investors include Intel Capital, Progress Ventures and Synchrony Financial.
